Boutique, regional and independent brokerages
With a smaller firm, ownership matters more than size. Who owns the firm decides who your broker answers to. These firms are profiled from their own websites and are not yet scored, because most publish no audited financials.

Profiled, not scored. We list only what each firm states on its own site and name the source. Firm claims such as “largest” are theirs, not ours.
Four ownership models
| Model | What it means for you |
|---|---|
| Broker-owned network | Each office is owned by the brokers who run it. Upside: the owner is often the person working your deal. Risk: quality varies a lot between offices. |
| Employee-owned or principal-owned | No public shareholders. Upside: the firm is not managed to quarterly results. Risk: less public data to check claims against. |
| Regional independent | Concentrated in a few states. Upside: local depth. Risk: thinner coverage if your portfolio spans regions. |
| Developer-broker | The firm also develops or owns buildings. Upside: deep land and construction knowledge. Risk: possible conflicts. Ask how its brokerage advice is kept apart from its own projects. |
